Thank you again to everyone on the TGS team for making this issue happen! Here is our team from the 2024/2025 year:
Co-Editors in Chief
Amy Ng is a fifth-year undergraduate studying English language and literature and minoring in Anthropology. She is also the Editor-in-Chief for the UBC undergraduate journal of Anthropology, The Ethnograph. When she isn’t obsessively reading fanfiction, you can find her creating art, gaming or gardening her way too large collection of plants. In her next life, she’d like to be reincarnated into a rock so she could sleep forever.
CJ McGillivray is a fourth-year English Honours student who is also an editor for The UBC Journal of Historical Studies. She previously worked as a tutor at the Langara College Writing Centre and before that she graduated from the theatre department at Capilano University. Her research interests include Shakespeare, science fiction and dystopian literature.
Submissions Coordinator
Christina Ma is a fifth-year undergrad majoring in History and minoring in English Language. As a lover of all things creative, she enjoys putting together zines and newsletters. When she isn’t making colour-coded spreadsheets, you can find her searching for a good tea latte, reading books about vampires, or writing essay-length analyses about her favourite characters.
Journal Coordinator
Julie Hoang is a third-year undergrad majoring in English Honours in Literature and Language. She’s previously worked as a copywriter and project manager, and hopes to continue working in a similar field. When she isn’t reading, you can find her dry scooping pre-workout at the gym, baking cookies, or binge watching trashy reality TV.
Marketing Coordinator
Freya Woolgrove is a fourth year undergrad double majoring in English Literature and Ancient Mediterranean and Near Eastern Studies. When Freya is not thinking about the Roman Empire (cause its literally her degree), you can find her binge reading, stress baking, or complaining about the weather.
Print Coordinator
Vista Mansouri is a second year undergraduate student majoring in Linguistics with a minor in Informatics. In her spare time, you can find her making tiramisu, giggling with her friends, making jewelry, and working on her radio show!
Editorial Assistant
Annie Wang is a second year Arts student majoring in English Literature and hopefully Creative Writing. She is an avid Mary Oliver, Pochacco, and tomato soup enthusiast, though not necessarily in that (or any) order. You’ll usually find her up late at night, hunched over her keyboard and tearing her hair out over her current WIP—but there’s nothing she’d rather be doing, after all.
Editors
David Collings is a fifth-year English Language and Literature Honours student with a minor in Creative Writing. He’s an occasional poet, a committed tea enjoyer, and on weekends can be found dragging himself up various North Shore mountains for no material benefit—which he’s told some people call “hiking.”
Helen Kang is currently a third-year English Language and Literature major, minoring in Creative Writing. Helen has been pulled around to study in four different countries from the time she could count to ten, and she is fairly desperate to settle. Reading has been her primary source of comfort throughout. Since arriving in Vancouver, Helen has obtained permanent eye bags, two cats, and signed up to a local rugby team.
Kayla Mackenzie is an avid writer, reader, and unwilling subordinate to her mini dachshund, Milo. Her literary interests include medievalism and feminism, and she loves anything antique, old, and musty-dusty. Also, seals! This is her first proper editing role, and she’s super excited to see everyone’s hard work bear fruit!
Amy Norris is a third-year student pursuing an Honours in English Literature and a minor in Sociology. Currently, she is spending the semester abroad at the University of Edinburgh, where she is immersing herself in a world of revered literature, weekend travel, Highland cows, and dark academia. As an employee at a tea shop, her ideal way to spend the weekend is curled up with a good book, a dirty chai, and piles of blankets.
Nina Fesenko is currently undertaking her second BA at UBC, having previously completed a BA at SFU in English and Communication. She is also studying editing at SFU Continuing Studies. When she isn’t busy spotting comma splices, she enjoys listening to metal and cooking Asian food.
Olivia Vos is a fourth year English literature major and creative writing minor who is graduating this May. In addition to editing for the Garden Statuary, she writes for the culture section at the Ubyssey. When she isn’t typing away furiously at her computer you can find her trying to watch horror movies or drinking surplus amounts of caffeine.
Makayla Conn is a fourth year undergrad majoring in English Literature. She loves rainy days, coffee and collecting postcards, and is an avid fan of weird lit, pop culture video essays and the colour sage. Her dream is to move to Scotland, where she will continue to read, write and edit endlessly.

Illustrators
Adri Marcano is a second-year Music – Violin Performance Major. She is a Venezuelan violinist who is loves the arts. She has participated in many orchestras and competitions across North and South America —including UBC Symphony Orchestra. In her free time she likes to read, paint, or indulge herself into learning a new language.
Alex Hoang is a second-year undergraduate student majoring in Media Studies. In her free time, she loves to draw while watching some of her favourite TV shows and new movies. If she had a cabin by the lake, she would frolic in the forest all day or pick up some new hobbies.
Maxine Gray is a second year Media Studies student. She loves all forms of media, whether consuming it or producing it. However, she is especially drawn to animation and digital art.
Nicole Ma is a second-year undergrad majoring in Environmental Sciences (she plans to switch into Biology in third year). There’s a million drawing ideas in her head but only 0.1% of those had been put into practice. If possible, she would like to invest some energy and time into crafts…she really wants to make a delicate miniature home (using household materials only).
Monica Feng is a third-year undergrad majoring in Visual Arts and minoring in Asian Language and Culture with a focus on Japan. Her main specialties are digital art and photography. When she’s not stressing out over ideas for her work, she enjoys playing Nintendo games, listening to K-pop, and watching J-dramas.
Margaret Xun is a first-year Arts student with hopes to major in Psychology. In her free time, she can be found drawing while binge-watching a sitcom she’s probably already watched a few hundred times before.
Keira Innes is a second-year Arts student majoring in Mathematics (yes, believe it or not, that’s an actual major in the Arts Faculty!). She adores making art (of all kinds), catching up with friends, and drinking obscene amounts of London fog.
