If you were a whimsical child, the “Cootie Catcher” game is surely second nature. If not, watch a video online on how to fold and play with a “Cootie Catcher,” or find a loved one to help you. I will not be explaining the basics in these instructions.
Assembly Instructions:
- Print pages two and three, double-sided so they are on top of each other.
- Trim away the rectangle of excess paper so that you are left with the text in a perfect square.
- Fold into a “Cootie Catcher.” *When you start the first four folds, page three should be facing upward. After the first four folds, only page two should be visible.*
- Once the Cootie Catcher is assembled, you should see the sections labelled: “her lips,” “her hair,” “her tongue,” and “her fingers.”
Gameplay Instructions:
- Choose which part of her body draws you in from across the room: “her lips,” “her tongue,” “her fingers,” or “her hair.”
- Play the “Cootie Catcher” game by moving the flaps with each syllable in the phrase connected to the body part that you have selected. Speak the phrase aloud. It may feel musical.
- Open one of the flaps that you land on. There are no numbers or symbols, so you will have to follow your gut.
- Once you have read the centre passage, turn the paper over.
- Open the sections hidden under “her lips,” “her hair,” “her tongue,” and “her fingers” one by one and read them.
- Once you have read every section, you must either crumble the “Cootie Catcher” and drown it in a sink full of water, or reset it to its original form and play again.
